THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS CHANGING

You can feel it.

There is a pivot point that is happening right now that is exciting for musicians.

The walls that labels and promoters had up for so many years are finally crumbling down.

You can see examples of artists that are starting to rewrite what success looks like as an independent artist

goals of the past

For years the goal was to get a record deal.

Then to go out on tour, build an audience, and grow into a successful music venture.

One where your tours were profitable, and you were able to make a great living doing what you love.

The new game

But the content game has interrupted and upended the music world.

Now anyone with a phone and drive can build their own audience.

They can use a variety of social media platforms to help get attention for their music.

They can grow their audience and start to build a sustainable career without ever interacting with a record label.

Digital distribution is now easily accessible.

You can have your songs up on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon, Deezer, etc. in a matter of a few days. So there is nothing that is standing between you and the audience that you can build.

Attention has always been the game

The game has always been figuring out a way to get attention for your music.

That hasn’t changed.

What has changed is how you do it.

Record labels back in the day would take an artist through a process of developing the story around them as an artist, what makes them unique, etc.

Then they would get them in front of other people’s audiences through playing music on shows, or being an opening act for an established band.

Now, you and I can go directly to the listener.

But the rules of the game are different.

You don’t need to find your way on to late night TV shows.

You don’t need to tour with bigger bands to build an audience.

But you still absolutely have to get the attention of an audience.

You still have to understand how to tell a compelling story.

And then you have to figure out how to translate that into making content that you put on social media platforms. All while maintaining a high standard of quality for your music.

Your music has to be great.

And you have to figure out the content game

And that’s what this site is going to be all about.

I’m going to be documenting my journey of learning and growing in these skills so that I can build something with my music.

I’m not some young buck that is just starting out.

I’ve been around the sun a few times.

But there is so much that I want and need to grow in to make this work.

I just think this is an amazing time in music history.

And I want to jump into this opportunity to see what can happen.

I hope that you’ll join me to keep up the projects that I’m working on.

And I’m shifting the way that I’m doing things

If you want to get behind the scenes access to the music I’m working on and the projects that are coming up …

consider dropping your email in the box below.

I’ll send you an update periodically.

Thanks for hanging out!

Cheers,

Jeremy
